A North Tyneside country park has launched an appeal for volunteers to come forward and be a ‘friend’ of the park.
Staff from the Rising Sun Country Park are on the hunt for volunteers as they look to revive the successful community group, the ‘Friends of the Rising Sun’.
The group will work with park staff and wardens to promote, develop and maintain the park, which is one of North Tyneside’s many much-loved green havens.
Cllr John Stirling, cabinet member for the Environment, said: “The Friends of the Park were instrumental in reclaiming the park, helping us to promote its history and heritage. They helped us to transform it to the park as we know it today, to benefit the whole community.
“We are seeking a diverse group of local people who can commit some of their spare time to help us with new activities and projects such as the renovation of the dipping pond.
“There are a host of ways friends can help the park including helping with outdoor environmental projects and events. We would also welcome new ideas which will help us continue to flourish in the future.”
Anyone interested in becoming a friend of the park is invited to attend an informal discussion at 12.30pm on Friday, February 19 in the exhibition room at the Rising Sun Countryside Centre on Whitley Road, NE12 9SS.
