Giving Notice

As our office prepares to re-open, we will be prioritising appointments for couples needing to give notice for their upcoming ceremonies. From Tuesday 28th July 2020 we will be contacting all couples who have a ceremony bookings for July, August and September 2020 to make an appointment with you.

Before your appointment, please take time to read the government guidance for weddings and civil partnerships in full and decide whether you are happy to proceed or would like to make alternative arrangements.

Weddings and civil partnerships will be taking place from Saturday 1st August 2020.

There are restrictions on the number of people our ceremony rooms can accommodate.

  • Register Office: maximum 4 people
  • River Suite: maximum 6 people
  • Tyne View Room: maximum 10 people

These numbers include the couple, witnesses, guests, professional photographers and any children over 1 year old.

For full details on how the new regulations will affect your ceremony at the Register Office, please read our guidance document. We also have information for couples getting married at an approved venue and for any official photographers/videographers listed at the bottom of the page.

After reading the guidance if you do not wish to proceed please contact us on

New Bookings

We are currently not accepting new bookings for 2020. We are taking bookings for ceremonies in 2021.  Please bear in mind we have limited availability due to many couples having to reschedule and do not know what restrictions will be in place for 2021 ceremonies.

Face Coverings

The Government has updated the guidance and FAQs on face coverings at weddings and civil partnerships in England to confirm these include those taking place in register offices or other approved venues.
