War veterans across North Tyneside are being invited to a special ceremony in the borough, part of a programme of events that have been arranged in the lead up to National Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25 June.
A flag will be raised at the event, which will take place on Monday 20 June 2016 at the Tynemouth Army Reserve Centre, New Clifford’s Fort, Station Terrace, North Shields. A ceremony will follow, which will include a presentation of badges to ex-service personnel.
Any North Tyneside residents who has served in the armed forces, including the volunteer and regular reserves is entitled to apply for the badge. The deadline for applications is Friday 27 May, 2016.
Those eligible should contact North Tyneside Council for an application to the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency and, if successful, they will be invited to the presentation ceremony. Veterans who have previously been presented with a lapel badge can not apply again.
The event is organised by North Tyneside Council, with the support of North Tyneside War Veterans Committee.
Veterans who would like to be presented with one of the badges at the Armed Forces Day event should contact the events team at North Tyneside Council by calling (0191) 643 7409 or emailing events@northtyneside.gov.uk.
