A campaign to target bullying returns this November for the eighth consecutive year.
Anti-bullying week 2019, which is taking place from Monday 11th November to Friday 15th November 2019, aims to make small, simple changes to break the cycle of bullying and create a safe environment for everyone.
A number of activities will take place throughout the week, including ‘Odd Sock Day’ on Tuesday 12th November where children are encouraged to wear an odd pair of socks to celebrate what makes everyone unique.
North Tyneside Council already works closely with the Youth Council, and the Young Mayor, who has pledged to reduce bullying in schools.
One inspiring initiative taking place throughout summer has been the anti-bullying creative writing and poetry competition, aimed at year groups 7 to 9 and 10 to 13.
On Wednesday 13th November, as part of anti-bullying week, the young people’s anti-bullying working group, made up of youth councillors, will present the winners of the competition with prizes for first, second and third places.
Members of the anti-bullying working group and other youth councillors are also working on the Equality and Diversity Conference which will be held in January 2020 and focus on getting young people talking about feminism, sexism, homophobia and disabilities.
