Nominations are now open for residents, businesses and community groups in North Tyneside to put forward their unsung heroes for the Elected Mayor’s Spirit of North Tyneside initiative.
Organised by North Tyneside Council, the event returns following the success of last year to celebrate the unsung heroes who selflessly give their time and energy to the people and communities of the borough.
And now, as part of National Customer Service Week, the authority is opening nominations as it looks for its next set of winners.
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Dame Norma Redfearn DBE, said: “We know that there are some fantastic people who go above and beyond to support their communities in North Tyneside and they deserve to be celebrated – that’s what we aim to do with the Spirit of North Tyneside initiative.
“I absolutely love hearing the amazing stories that come from the Spirit of North Tyneside. Each year, they make me feel humbled, happy, even sad in some cases, but the constant is the sense of pride I feel to represent and be a part of this borough.
“This an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the incredible work that happens in our communities, and show our appreciation for the difference they make. Please get in touch with us if you have anything or anyone that you think deserves recognition.”
Spirit of North Tyneside aims to acknowledge and celebrate all of the people who have helped to make a difference, whether that is going the extra mile to support neighbours or a community effort, whether it be a random act of kindness, hosting an event or making a difference to the environment.
All nominations will go before the Elected Mayor and her Cabinet and winners will be invited to an award ceremony and event in December to celebrate their success.
Among last year’s winners were Jill and Michael Green, who won in the Supporting Families in North Tyneside category for their work as part of Shiremoor Children’s Treat. They were praised for their commitment and the positive impact they’d had on the lives of young people in the local area.
Nominations will be open until November 17. There is no specific criteria; if you think someone deserves recognition, then nominate them for the Spirit of North Tyneside and tell us what it is they’ve done. You can do this through the online form, or by emailing SpiritOfNorthTyneside@northtyneside.gov.uk.
