As part of National Apprenticeship Week, North Tyneside Council’s Connexions service will be hosting their ever-popular ‘Get Up and Go’ training and employment event.

‘Get Up and Go’ aims to raise awareness and understanding of apprenticeships amongst young people aged 15-19 and their families. It has proved to be a popular event, with over 250 young people attending in 2015.

The session will run from 10.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday, March 19 at the council’s HQ on Cobalt Business Park. Young people can drop in at any point for any length of time during the session.

This year’s event will feature around 35 employers and providers who are actively seeking to employ and support apprentices within their business. These will include opportunities within businesses such as Accenture, Capita, Owen Pugh, Northumbria Healthcare and North Tyneside Council. There will also be organisations offering various volunteering opportunities.

Advisers from the Connexions service will be at the event to offer any advice or information, if necessary.

Cllr Ian Grayson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children, Young People and Learning, said, “The Get Up and Go event is a great opportunity for young people and their parents to come along and learn more about the different options that are available to them in the borough.

“This year’s event is inviting an array of businesses who will be directly looking to employ apprentices. I’d encourage as many people as possible to go along and find out more.”

North Tyneside Council headquarters are located at Quadrant East, Cobalt Business Park, Silverlink North, NE27 0BY.

Now in its eighth year, National Apprenticeship Week is co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service and is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
