North Tyneside Council is supporting a new campaign from Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuiness to help make public spaces and parks feel more inclusive and safer for women, girls and marginalised groups.
Parks right across the region covered by the Police and Crime Commissioner have been selected to receive funding to improve lighting, create dedicated safe spaces and help-points. In North Tyneside, this will be at Richardson Dees Park in Wallsend.
The council’s community protection team is inviting everyone to come along to the free evening event in the park on Wednesday to try some new activities, have some fun and enjoy using the park as a safe outdoor place to spend time.
The free event will include:
- Live DJ
- Active Mams – work out with your little one
- Little Movers dance (ages up to 7) at 5.15pm
- Face painting
- Tennis and games
- Outdoor gym
- FREE gym vouchers from Contours*
- FREE refreshments*
There’s no need to book, just come along. Please enter via the main park entrance, on North Road.
The campaign has been introduced by the Police and Crime Commissioner, with support from Northumbria Police and Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland.
The Richardson Dees Park event is being supported by the council’s sport and leisure service, Active North Tyneside and Wallsend-based Dreamshine.
