Review of North Tyneside Council Statement of Licensing Policy (Sex Establishments)

Consultation details

North Tyneside Council is reviewing its Policy on the licensing of sex establishments. This Policy sets out how the Council as a Licensing Authority will exercise its statutory functions when licensing sex establishments. This includes the promotion of consistency in decision-making.

The current Policy came into force in February 2017 and has been updated to include the following changes:

  • Updated references to the North Tyneside Council Plan
  • References to Public Sector Equality Duty
  • Need for Basic Disclosure Certificate for applicants
  • Safeguarding training for applicants.

Views are being sought on these proposed changes to the Licensing Policy and any other comments are being sought on the Policy.

The existing policy includes a numerical limit on the number of sexual entertainment venues within a specified area of Whitley Bay, namely the area bordered by Whitley Road, Park Avenue, the Promenade and the Esplanade. As part of this engagement exercise views are sought in relation to whether or not this numerical limit should remain at nil or if alternative options should be considered.
