Planning policy timetable and Consultation guidance

The Local Development Scheme (LDS) sets out the future programme for the preparation of planning policy documents for North Tyneside.

The Council is required by law to publish the LDS and to issue updates, the most recent LDS was approved by Cabinet on 17 February 2025. This sets out a timetable for preparation of a new Local Plan for the Borough. In summary the Council's current programme for plan preparation includes:

• Summer 2025 - Public consultation on vision, issues and options
• Autumn  / Winter 2025 - Public consultation on a Draft North Tyneside Local Plan (regulation 18)
• Summer 2026 - Public consultation on a Publication Draft North Tyneside Local Plan (regulation 19)
• Winter 2026 - Submission of the publication draft North Tyneside Local Plan
• 2027 - Anticipated examination in public for the proposed North Tyneside Local Plan
• 2027/28 - Anticipated adoption of the Local Plan by North Tyneside Council.

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is the Council's statement on how the local community and others will be involved in the preparation of planning policy and the consideration of planning applications.
