Dome Sweet Dome Exhibition

As part of the wider restoration project for the Spanish City Dome, Heritage Lottery provided funding to undertake an exhibition documenting the work undertaken. Due to the interesting items found on site, photographs provided by people who attended the first hard hat tour and increased interest in the project, it was decide to hold an exhibition early in the restoration process. This was undertaken at the Old Low Light at the Fish Quay and a call was put out for people to come forward who had memorabilia they would be willing to share as part of the exhibition.

North Tyneside Council Cycling Strategy Consultation

The council has invited residents to have their say on the draft North Tyneside Cycling Strategy. The draft strategy sets out how the council will continue to help more people in the borough cycle more easily and often. It is aimed at getting more people to take part in everyday cycling, which is good for people’s health and the environment, and, wherever possible, improving the infrastructure of the borough to support the increasing popularity of cycling. The authority would like to thank everyone who shared their views as part of this engagement exercise.

Draft Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document

Alongside work on the Community Infrastructure Levy the Council have also sought to update the existing Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This SPD provides guidance on how the Council will seek planning obligations (through section 106 agreements) from infrastructure not listed in the draft Regulation 123 List.

Consultation on the draft SPD was carried out alongside consultation on the Draft Charging Schedule (DCS) in autumn 2017.

North Tyneside Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)

CIL is a tool for Local Authorities to help deliver infrastructure to support the development of their area. The CIL allows Local Authorities to charge a tariff, at a locally set rate, on many types of new development. This money can then be used to support a range of infrastructure including wider strategic infrastructure needs identified as part of the Local Plan, not just the specific impacts of each development.
To date the Council has carried out two stages of consultation on the CIL;

Budget Engagement 2017-2018

The Council invited residents to have their say on the council’s draft budget proposals for 2017-2018. In order to meet the challenge of having less resources and greater demand for services the council needs to do things very differently. Via this engagement, the council shared their approach to address these challenges. Residents were given the opportunity to share their views on the draft budget proposals.

Murton Master Plan

During the public engagement three ‘drop in’ events were held with the local community at the following locations:
• Wednesday, November 1, 2017, 2pm to 7pm – Monkseaton High School, Seatonville Road, NE25 9EQ
• Monday, November 6, 2017, 4.30pm to 8pm – Shiremoor Library, Shiremoor Centre, Earsdon Road, Shiremoor, NE27 0QU
• Thursday, November 9, 2017, 3pm to 8pm – St Aidan’s Church Hall, Billy Mill Lane, North Shields, NE29 8BZ

Killingworth Master Plan

Following agreement of the Strategic Allocation of Killingworth Moor by the government inspector as part of the Local Plan 2017 a draft masterplan was produced to guide development of the allocation. Views were sought on the suggested proposals.

Draft Register of Buildings and Parks of Local Architectural and Historic Interest Supplementary Planning Document (“the Draft Local Register SPD”)

The Draft Register of Buildings and Parks of Local Architectural and Historic Interest Supplementary Planning Document (“the Draft Local Register SPD”) updates the existing Register which was adopted in 2008 (see below).

Planning Applications and Pre-application consultation

The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended) requires that before a decision is made on a planning application, statutory consultees and the local community should have the opportunity to comment on any aspect of the proposal.

All planning applications are publicised by site or press notice and / or by notifying adjoining neighbours directly by letter and by publication on the Council’s web site.

Representations to planning applications are accepted in writing either by letter, email or through the Council’s planning portal (see below).
