Refresh of Equality and Diversity Policy

Equality includes and affects everyone. As an organisation we are committed to equality, to meeting our duties and to using the feedback we receive to help us work better for our residents.

Our current Equality and Diversity Policy was agreed in 2017. Now in line with good practice we are reviewing it and need your views on our equality vision and commitments. Simply click on the blue button below to take part.

Volunteering Questionnaire

In North Tyneside we would like to find out more about how many people are involved in volunteering. This is when you choose to give your time and energy to benefit other people (not family members) without being paid for it.

This is an anonymous survey. The information you provide will help North Tyneside Council and its partners to develop volunteering across North Tyneside.

New Housing Repairs Service

On 1st April 2019, the Housing Repairs Service will transfer to the direct management of North Tyneside Council from Kier North Tyneside. We are seeking your views to help us understand your priorities and expectations of the new Housing Repairs Service. Can you please a few minutes of your time complete the questionnaire using the link below? Let us know how you would prefer to report a repair, what choice of appointment times should be available and how we should prioritise repairs. All responses to the questionnaire will be anonymous and cannot identify you.

Licensing Cumulative Impact Assessment Consultation

The Authority is of the opinion that in specified parts of the Borough granting any further alcohol led licenses or variations to existing licenses would undermine the licensing objectives set out in the licensing Act 2003. The draft Cumulative Impact Assessment is designed to ensure the councils approach is consistent with the objectives of the Act and we welcome the views of residents and businesses.

Adopt North East Consultation

In June 2015 the government requested that local authority adoption services pool together to form regional adoption agencies.

In the North East five authorities – Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council, Northumberland County Council and South Tyneside Council – have developed Adopt North East, a regional adoption agency.

Voluntary adoption agencies including After Adoption, ARC Adoption, Barnardo’s and Durham Family Welfare also provided insight during the development of Adopt North East.

Introducing and increasing charges for services provided by the Court of Protection Team

The Court of Protection Team helps people who have lost capacity to manage their money safely - this includes cases of financial abuse where people entrusted with managing the money of vulnerable people have mismanaged the finances, sometimes to the point of jeopardizing a person's care. The current level of fees and charges do not cover the council's costs to deliver this service.

Review of Statement of Licensing Policy (Gambling)

This is the 3 yearly review of the Councils Gambling Policy. The Gambling Act 2005 states that the Council must produce a Licensing Policy Statement in relation to how it will deal with the licensing of gambling premises within North Tyneside. Statements were previously consulted on in 2015.
Approval to consult going to Cabinet 14 May. Will return to Cabinet after consultation and then decision by Council November 2018, to be in force by 31 January 2019.

Proposed Amendment to North Tyneside Council's Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy

The Authority’s Licensing Service is responsible for licensing hackney carriages, private hire vehicles, their drivers and private hire operators.
The current Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy permits advertising of two-dimensional insignia type to be displayed on the rear doors, rear wings and boot area of licensed vehicles and along the top 8 cm strip of the windscreen of the vehicle provided that it is not illuminated and bears only the name and/or telephone number in block letters of the firm operating the vehicle.

Changes to financial assessments for non-residential care services

We are proposing changes from 2nd July 2018 to the way in which those who will receive non-residential services are financially assessed. Existing service users will not be affected by these proposals.

The Department of Health prescribed the minimum amount of income a person must be left with after paying for their care and support. Councils can allow people to keep more income than this amount if they wish. This amount is called the minimum income guarantee (MIG).
